AUSTRALIAN TV presenter Lisa Wilkinson has announced she will get a mammogram live on TV to raise awareness for breast cancer.
Wilkinson, co-host of the Today program on the Nine Network, made the announcement on Wednesday – just a day after it was revealed US presenter Amy Robach’s on-air mammogram had detected cancer in her breasts.
“I have a confession… I’m overdue to have a mammogram… I’m going to have it done,” Wilkinson tweeted via the Today show hashtag.
Since Wilkinson’s announcement, women have taken to Twitter to congratulate the TV host for her decision, including McGrath Foundation director Tracy Bevan, who was the best friend of the late Jane McGrath.
“Well done Lisa,” Bevan tweeted.
Jodie Carter tweeted: “Well done on taking the time to save your life!”
“Congratulations of your very public decision Lisa, well done!” Robyn Packer wrote.
Robach, 40, was detected with breast cancer a month after she had a mammogram on the air for Good Morning America.
She will have a double mastectomy on Thursday.
Robach, a frequent fill-in on the popular breakfast program while Robin Roberts was fighting a serious blood and bone-marrow disease, said on Monday that the mammogram saved her life. -AAP
