ON A hillside at Codford in Wiltshire, 10 miles west of Stonehenge, is a 70 x 50 metre, 97 year old landmark of Australian origin. It is a chalk outline of the rising sun cap badge created by Australian soldiers stationed here during World War One.
Annual maintenance is necessary to prevent it being obliterated by the surrounding turf which would otherwise gradually encroach onto it.
Until recently plenty of Australian service personnel posted in Britain helped interested locals to do this refurbishment, as a memorial to those Australians who came here, and died, in two great conflicts.
