NICK CAVE has announced his project Grinderman is over.
Cave used the band’s headline set at Meredith Music Festival in Victoria to declare that Grinderman are no more.
But the frontman, better known for his work with the Bad Seeds, left the door open for a reunion.
“That’s it for Grinderman. It’s over,” Cave said.
“See you all in another 10 years when we’ll be even older and uglier.”
The band walked off stage to little fanfare, leaving many among the 12,000-strong crowd questioning if Cave was serious.
Grinderman formed in 2006 and featured Warren Ellis, Martyn Casey and Jim Sclavunos alongside Cave.
The quartet released their self-titled debut in 2007 and a follow up, Grinderman 2, in 2010. They were nominated for three ARIA Awards this year, including Best Group and Album Of The Year.
Earlier this year Cave said that Grinderman and his main band Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds could exist alongside each other indefinitely.
The set at Meredith Music Festival was the last of Grinderman’s touring commitments, following a recent run of Australian shows, including Homebake. – AAP
