Well here I am preparing for the darkness of www…..ter and she throws this at me. A Bombay Potato Summer. What can you say to this, other than it’s a gift from heaven.
Only those who have done the hard yakka of a record breaking www…ter & a semi summer in the UK can really appreciate this amazing event. Where is everyone?? Working from home, me thinks. The beer garden is packed, and so it should be, the publican looks like he just picked up his gold medal.
The ice cream vans were just about up on blocks but now they are devilishly pied piping their message of all things good and great to my kids, and good on ’em.
My new best friend, the weather girl, has also got that look of someone who has just given you a fantastic pressie and is waiting to see your face when you open it.
And how about all those people that have headed to Spain this week? Oops. I can feel their pain on the back of my neck as they failed to switch off their phones before the rush of text messages from sweet sunny England came in.
Or is that just the sun on the back of my neck? Warmth, ice cream tunes, BBQ smoke, bloody hell I am getting way to comfortable, my defences are down, and the locals know it.
We will party hard this weekend and give summer a standing ovation such as Steve Waugh’s last stand century at the SCG. This is the way to retire!
We know this won’t last long and we know it won’t be back for a very long time (snow is possible in October) so grab your gear and hit your favourite parts of the UK for the last hurrah of what is, as my new best friend describes, a meteorological phenomenon. AKA a bloody beauty of a week, mate. I think I will hold off a tad on my purchase of gumboots.
