Ernie Dingo pleads not guilty to assault

Television personality Ernie Dingo has pleaded not guilty to assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a school in the West Australian town of Carnarvon.

At the Carnarvon Magistrates Court on Monday, Dingo was not required to attend for the first hearing of the aggravated common assault charge against him.

Police allege the 54-year-old slapped the boy on the face at a school assembly on July 28.

Dingo entered a plea of not guilty by endorsement in a letter to the court.

A date of February 3 has been set for a trial in Carnarvon.
