David Warner remains unbeaten on 244 while Usman Khawaja notched up 121 as the Aussie batsman carved up the Kiwi bowling attack on Day 1 of the second cricket Test at the WACA.
It is Warner’s maiden double ton and his third 100+ score in a row. On the way, he passed 4000 test runs – the second quickest Australian to do so (45 Tests) behind only Don Bradman (31 tests).
His 244 not out is already the second highest individual Test score at the WACA, behind Mathew Hayden’s 380 against Zimbabwe in 2003. It is also the most Test runs scored by an individual in a single day in Australia.
In the face of Warner’s remarkable knock, Usman Khawaja’s exquisite second century in as many matches on his return to the Test arena was relegated to a support act.
Australia resume on Day 2 at 416/2.
