Admire Rakti, the Melbourne Cup bookies’ and punters’ favourite has reportedly died.
The Japanese owned horse, ridden by Hong Kong based Australian jockey Zac Purton and which won last month’s Caulfield Cup finished a surprising last in the 2014 ‘race that stops the nation’.
While the Cup presentation ceremony was under way, Admire Rakti reportedly collapsed after returning to the stables. A vet pronounced the champion stayer dead soon after.
The 2014 Melbourne Cup was won by Protectionist, ridden by Ryan Moore, followed by Red Cadeaux in second and Who Shot The Barman in third.
