Hewitt has been preparing for Australia’s Davis Cup tie with Belarus, beginning on Friday.
He made the early return to Australia after losing to Tim Henman in the second round of the Nasdaq-100 Open in Miami, but Australian captain John Fitzgerald said there was a silver lining to his loss. “It’s always an advantage to get here early and to hit a lot of balls in these conditions,” Fitzgerald said.
Hewitt has made a shaky start to the year so far, struggling with poor form and an ankle injury, he has dropped out of the top 10 in the world rankings. But Fitzgerald believes the Australian will soon be back at his best. “He was really hoping to do well in Indian Wells (a third-round loss to Czech Tomas Berdych) and Miami, but sometimes things don’t always go to plan in some of your matches,” Fitzgerald added.
