Trent Evans: Former Journalist sentenced to 8 years in prison

In February 2021, Trent Evans lost a friend in a tragic accident caused by reckless driving and has been sentenced.

Trent Evans enjoyed a successful career in journalism for many years. After the tragic accident in 2021, the former newsreader ultimately had his life fall apart when he became homeless.

Journalist Trent Evans jailed for almost eight years 

During his long-spanning career, Trent Evans worked at the Herald Sun, ABC, WIN, and the Seven Network. The journalist worked as a newsreader, a reporter as well as a journalist. 

Today, Trent has been sentenced to 7 years and 10 months in prison for the death of his friend. He will be considered for parole when he completed a little over 5 years in prison. 

Thus far, the court heard that Trent Evans and the late Rex Willox took to drinking Champagne at Rex’s home in 2021. At the time, it is reported that Rex hadn’t had a drink in three years.

To date, security footage shows Trent Evans and Rex Willox drinking champagne for at least four hours before they ran out of alcohol. From then onward, the two decided to hit the road to buy more alcohol.

So far, Trent Evans testified that he was the more sober one and had taken control of the wheel before taking off. ABC News shares that the former Journalist drove twice the speed limit during this time. 

Presently, witnesses shared that Trent was driving recklessly and bumped into cars while driving. Eventually, Evans lost control when the car swerve into the left lane and hit a power pole.

The car reportedly tumbled before eventually landing on its wheels again. So far, the power pole is reported to have snapped as the car hit it. 

As a result, Rex Willox instantly lost his life and was declared dead on the scene. Thus far, Trent has expressed his extreme remorse and has also written a letter to the family. 

Previously, Trent Evans has gotten into trouble for drinking and driving twice. The most recent offense would be his third time driving under the influence.
