Facebook and Twitter have just released their year in review, highlighting top global topics, most checked into locations, most talked about topics and most noteworthy tweets.

Topping the lists this year was the World Cup, Ebola virus outbreak, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenges and #BringBackOurGirls.

Other top global topics included a mix of news, politics and entertainment. The elections in Brazil, Robin Williams’s death, the conflict in Gaza, the two notorious Malaysian Airlines flights losses and the Super Bowl also featured in the top ten. George W. Bush’s ALS Ice Bucket Challenge was the most viewed on Facebook, followed by Will Smith, Shakira, Mark Wahlberg, David Beckham and Lady Gaga.
