Road closures: Queensland weather worsens as floods continue

Road closures have been implemented thus far to prevent anyone from traveling through certain roads. As the weather conditions are expected to worsen with rain pouring for the next 24 hours, the Minister of transport is urging everyone to stay home if they do not need to travel. 

Road closures implemented in light of flash flooding

This comes as a 54-year-old man has died through driving with his motorbike through a rising flood. Another body was found and identified as a 64-year-old woman in a submerged car on Sunshine Coast. 

In light of these two tragedies, Minister of Transport, Mark Bailey has urged everyone who doesn’t need to travel, to stay home. These road closures are in their best interest. Currently, there are some individuals taking shelter on their roofs. While people in low-lying areas were urged to move to other areas. 

Weather conditions to last until Saturday

Since the weather conditions are expected to last until Saturday morning, forty-three schools have been closed on the southeast. The potential flood flashing can be very detrimental and life-threatening as reported before. With road closures there to protect people from decisions they may make.

According to the Guardian, residents from the North of the Sunshine Coast have been warned the Mary River will be reaching high levels. This has not been expected before. Drivers at this point, are asked to postpone any non-essential driving. With road closures that have been introduced to take place on Bruce Highway.
