Radio DJ suspended over Dreamworld tragedy joke

A radio host has been suspended after making a joke about this week’s terrible accident at Dreamworld, live on air.

Presenter on Hobart FM Anna Dare (above) made the gaffe during a ‘secret sound’ segment on Thursday morning.

The station was offering a prize of $140 to listeners for guessing what the sound was.

“It’s not getting stuck in a conveyor belt at a theme park is it?” Dare offered.

“Too soon?

“That’s what it sounds like to me, when I first heard it, that’s the first thing I thought of.”

The chief executive of Grant Broadcasters, owner of Hobart FM, Grant Cameron apologised for Dare’s remarks, saying the DJ suffered “a serious lapse in judgement”.

“This was a dreadful mistake and the announcer is devastated at such a lapse. As employers, we must also consider her well-being,” he said.

“We have dealt with this unfortunate incident as swiftly as possible and will use it to further improve our standards and the training of our on-air staff.”

According to AAP, Dare has been suspended from live-air duties and is to recieve councelling.

Four people were killed on Tuesday when the Thunder River Rapids ride at Dreamworld on the Gold Coast malfuntioned.
