SCOTT Morrison, the Federal Shadow Minister for Immigration and Citizenship, will be presenting a seminar at the Menzies Centre for Australian Studies in London this Wednesday evening.
The seminar, jointly presented with History and Policy, will be held in K0.16 King’s Building at Kings College at 6.15pm on 23 Wednesday 2013.
Titled ‘Australia — the Land of our adoption’, the presentation will explore the notion of Australians as adopted sons and daughters of a new land and a new nation, and how this status of shared adoption can provide a more powerful foundation for social cohesion in Australia and policies that seek to address cultural and ethnic diversity in our modern immigration nation.
The presentation will argue that the polices of multiculturalism over the past four decades have achieved much in Australia to increase the level of tolerance and appreciation of diversity in our modern society, however, we can do better and should aspire to a higher goal, where our ethnicity is not the focus of debate and policy, and importantly should not define our participation in Australian life.
