Aussies and their friends filled venues all over London last night to celebrate Australia Day but the victims of the Queensland floods were not far from revellers’ minds.
Venues across town had queues around the block. Inside, outfits ranged from the sedate to the outrageous – in amongst the sea of Aussie flags and green and gold accessories we came across everything from inflatable kangaroos to one man in a rather fetching Aussie flag bikini.
Meanwhile, Australian Business’ official QLD Flood Fundraising event was a huge success, raising £2500 in donations for the Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal. Over 350 members of the Australian business community gathered at the Grange City Hotel in London last night to celebrate the national holiday and send their support to friends and families in Queensland affected by the devastating floods.
The crowd joined in one minute’s applause for the tremendous efforts of emergency rescue teams and volunteers involved in the aftermath of the floods. The celebration featured special entertainment by Australian West End stars.
