It has been confirmed that Australian nurse Kirsty Boden is one of the seven people killed in Saturday’s London Bridge terrorist attack.
According to her family, 28-yer-old Ms Boden was murdered while trying to help other victims at the scene of the massacre.
In a statement issued by police on their behalf, Ms Boden’s family expressed their deep grief, saying she died a hero.
“She was the most outgoing, kind and generous person who loved to help people. Helping people was what she loved to do in her job as a nurse and in her daily life,” the statement read.
“As she ran towards danger, in an effort to help people on the bridge, Kirsty sadly lost her life.
“We are so proud of Kirsty’s brave actions which demonstrate how selfless, caring and heroic she was, not only on that night, but throughout all of her life. Kirsty — we love you and we will miss you dearly.”
The family have requested their privacy now be respected.
Ms Boden is one of four Australians confirmed to have been directly affected in Saturday’s terrorist attack in London.
Candice Hedge and Andrew Morrison are recovering after being stabbed in the neck while the other Australian is as yet unnamed.
Metropolitan Police have said they don’t release victims’ names until they have permission from the coroner or the victim’s family.
Grave fears are held for Australian nanny Sara Zelenak who was last seen at London Bridge on the night of the terrorist atrocity.
Hailing from South Australia, Kirsty Boden had been working as a nurse in London at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital.
“Kirsty was an outstanding nurse and a hugely valued member of the staff team in Theatres Recovery, described by her colleagues as ‘one in a million’ who always went the extra mile for the patients in her care,” Chief Nurse Dame Eileen Sills said in a statement on Tuesday.
“Our thoughts at this time are with her family, her loved ones and our staff who have lost a dear friend and colleague.”
South Australia Premier Jake Weatherill said Ms Boden’s death brought the horror of terrorism home.
“We all know someone who lives in the United Kingdom. We all know someone who could have been innocently wandering through London last weekend,” he said.
“It’s the random nature of this heinous crime which makes it so hard to fathom.”
Ten people were killed (including the three terrorists) and 48 injured in the attack in London on Saturday night. Three jihadists mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge with a rented van before crashing it and running into the nearby Borough Market area on a murderous stabbing rampage before being shot dead by police.
