AUSTRALIAN cricketer Doug Bollinger and American singer Katy Perry may face charges from an Indian court, after claims of ‘indecency’ were alleged following the opening show of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in April.
Madras High Court, acting on a “public interest” complaint filed by a lawyer, has ordered a hearing on the accusations on 31 July. The complaint alleges the show was “obscene and lascivious, appealing to prurient interest”.
It is believed that the offending incident was when Bollinger put his arms around Perry to demonstrate a cricket shot. Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan is also in hot water over Perry’s saucy performance and top Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra and IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla were also cited in the complaint.
None of the superstars have yet been formally charged and they will not be required to attend the hearing on 31 July.
