Donald Trump weird and terrifying, says senior Australian minister

Donald Trump is a big problem and “kind of weird” says senior Australian government minister Christopher Pyne.

Speaking on Channel Seven’s The Morning Show on Thursday, the Industry Minister described the billionaire businessman’s rise to the top of the Republican primary race for the US Presidential nomination as “terrifying”.

“We are seeing in America these terrible rallies occurring where the people are becoming violent,” he said.

“Now, democracy should be robust but it certainly shouldn’t be violent.

“And I think the Donald Trump phenomenon is a real problem for the United States.

“It’s making their democracy look kind of weird.”

Pyne also warned of the damage Donald Trump’s self-described ‘movement’ may be doing to the conservative cause in America.

“It’s terrifying, and I think for the Republican Party, if they choose Donald Trump, will find themselves in the wilderness for a very long time.”

Trump currently leads the Republican race for the White House, having amassed far more votes and delegates than his rivals, with the state-by-state primary elections at around the half way point.

While energising an economically disaffected, and mostly white, element of conservative voters, Trump’s campaign has horrified the Republican establishment, with many of the party’s senior representatives calling for a rallying of the party membership against his nomination.

If Trump does not secure a majority of primary delegates over the course of the primary elections, the party may yet conspire at the Republican convention in July to deny the front-runner the nomination.

Trump warned of chaos if that were to occur.

“We’re way ahead of everybody,” Trump boasted to CNN after notching up further wins on Tuesday, including the delegate rich trophy state of Florida.

“I don’t think you can say that we don’t get it automatically.

“I think you would have riots.

“You know, I’m representing many, many millions of people.”
