British sex offender located and caught in Australia through his Facebook posts

British sex offender, Steven Allison, thought he was living the life ‘laying low’ in Canberra, until his arrogant Facebook posts lead to him being tracked down and sent back to the UK in handcuffs.

The 37-year-old uploaded pictures of his new happy life in Canberra where he found work as a labourer, as well as joking about being “fooocking leathered” (drunk) in his hometown, Idle, West Yorkshire.

Allison had been on the run for 30 months after he assaulted two women in June 2013 when out drinking with a friend in Yeadon, Leeds. According to the Telegraph and Argus the two women rejected his advances and, after the one woman threw a drink at him for indecently assaulting her friend, he punched both to the ground.

Allison was charged with two sexual assaults but failed to appear in Bradford Crown Court. He was given a 30 month jail sentence.

“It was clear that Allison felt he could cheat justice by fleeing the country and escaping to Australia,” said Det Insp Ben McDonald of the Bradford District Safeguarding unit.

Bradford District’s Public Protection Unit and Interpol had previously traced Allison to Australia and detained him while arrangements were made for him to be returned to the UK, reported the Telegraph and Argus.

However, Allison feigned an arm injury and escaped the detention centre when he was taken for medical treatment.

The sex offender then went on to brag on Facebook about his easygoing bachelor life Down Under, how he wanted to meet women, as well as his former life in Yorkshire.

The British police teamed up with Australian police and Interpol to locate Allison again. On 31 March Allison was brought back to the UK in handcuffs while being escorted by three Australian security guards.

Allison is expected to appear in court before being transferred to prison.
