Three fresh ways to spoil mum this Mother’s Day

Right, you have a bit of time left to prepare for Mother’s Day, which lands on Sunday, 10 May in Australia. These are weird times we live in, which might not allow you to give gifts in the traditional sense, but you can get inventive and think of other really good ways to impress your dear mum.

Shower her with the gift of words

It’s pretty straightforward to just buy a bunch of roses or a stack of chocolates and hand ’em over. But it takes something a bit extra to really think of some kind words to tell your mum. Think back and come up with a memory or three that really characterise the love you have for your mum and then share them with her in a loving way. She’ll be so pleased – and the sentiment will last longer than any box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers could.

Fix something

All mums, whether they have partners or not, have that nagging something in the house that needs tending to. Perhaps some thing is dripping or leaking, maybe something has cracked or is in a different state of disrepair. You might not be able to fix it yourself, or fix it on the day, but you can certainly put the wheels in motion to get it done by hiring a handyman or enlising the help of whatever means necessary. Even if mum can make the call and pay for it herself, rather take this off her hands.

Give it a wash

Taking a step away from the handyman side of things and more into the domestic, maybe there is something that needs a deep clean and mum just hasn’t got around to doing it. You do it. The car, the garage, the garden, the spare room – whatever it might be, give it a clean and tidy up where required. This will put her mind at ease and, yes, you will probably pick up some brownnie points – and maybe some actual brownie cakes! – along the way. This can’t hurt. Win, win, indeed.

So there you have it. You’re not reinventing the wheel here, but are approaching Mother’s Day gifting slightly differently.
