You might not be aware, but Hulu has a huge library of movies, including classics from the past. So be sure to access Hulu from foreign lands in Australia and other countries to never miss out on your favourite TV shows and movies!

That said, what makes a film underrated? That’s up for debate, but one thing is certain: underrated films are often better than those that get all of the attention. So in this article, we’ve compiled a list of our favourite underrated films on Hulu so you can see what we mean:

The Assistant (2019)

The Assistant is a movie about a young girl working under the wing of a powerful executive. This film gives us an insight into the life of an assistant and the harsh reality of systemic abuse and workplace harassment.

Julia Garner’s performance was stunning, as she captures the essence of an introvert forced to come out of her shell by her demanding boss. The movie is also a timely reminder of how we can be blinded by someone’s charisma but are better off honouring our inner voice.

Non-Fiction (2018)

Non-Fiction is another underrated film worth a watch. It was by Olivier Assayas and starred Juliette Binoche and Guillaume Canet as the titles roles. The movie is about a married couple who have been together for 12 years.

The husband has been offered a job in Shanghai, but he doesn’t want to accept it. Moreover, this film is interesting because it shows how people change as life goes on. How we grow up and our goals change over time.

Gemini (2017)

If you want to watch a thriller movie and find an underrated one, you should watch Gemini. It is an American independent crime drama by Aaron Katz. The movie also stars an ensemble cast of Lola Kirke, Zoë Kravitz, and John Cho as main leads.

Gemini is a psychological thriller with a cast of great actors that delivers a twisted storyline. It’s not just a great film for movie lovers, but also for those who love a good mystery and intrigue.

Baywatch (2017)

Baywatch is a timeless classic with one of the most iconic casts in movie history. Moreover, it’s hilarious, raunchy, and chock full of action.

The movie tells the story of Mitch Buchannon (Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson) an overprotective and socially repressed lifeguard.

Later on, he has to team up with Stephanie Holden (Alexandra Daddario). This is a brilliant comedy full of errors and a slapstick masterpiece by Seth Golden.

California Typewriter (2016)

California Typewriter is an extremely endearing and unique film by Doug Nichol. On the surface, it’s about an eccentric group of people intertwined with each other’s lives through a typewriter.

The film also takes place in Los Angeles, so many characters are intertwined with some sort of Hollywood connection. The plot doesn’t go anywhere, but it doesn’t really need to. It’s more of a slice-of-life film than anything else, and it works very well.

Colossal (2016)

Colossal failed to get the hype it deserved, but we are here cheering for this one. For starters, it has Anne Hathaway, Jason Sudeikis, Dan Stevens, and Tim Blake Nelson as leads.

The movie is about a woman who moves back to her hometown in an attempt to restart her life.

She doesn’t know that she has a strange connection with a giant monster that has appeared out of nowhere and is wreaking havoc on the city. This movie is hilarious, but the writing is very clever and witty, the characters are interesting, and you will enjoy watching them!

Drinking Buddies (2013)

Drinking Buddies is as honest and poignant a look at human relationships in a film ever made. The comedy-romance by Joe Swanberg tells the story of Kate (Olivia Wilde) and Luke (Jake Johnson).

Mostly, these coworkers spend their time drinking and flirting with each other throughout the film.

But the film also follows the two through all facets of their relationship: their first date, an emotional breakup, a week-long break from contact, to a rekindling of romance.

Moneyball (2011)

Moneyball is an American biographical sports drama film by Bennett Miller. The film also stars Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill, with Philip Seymour Hoffman, Chris Pratt, and Robin Wright in its supporting roles.

It is a film that delivers an emotional punch and keeps you engaged the entire time. With excellent acting and a captivating story. It tells the story of Billy Beane, the Oakland A’s general manager, their struggles to win games using conventional methods, and their use of analytics to compete.

Final Word

Perception of the underrated movie varies from person to person. But these movies are seen on various polls across the internet falling under the radar of best-underrated movies.
