Ed Sheeran wins Shape of You copyright lawsuit dated 2017

Ed Sheeran has one less thing to worry about this year. As he finally concludes the Shape Of You lawsuit. That is, against an artist who claims that he copied some of the lyrics of a previous song made.

Ed Sheeran wins lawsuit

In the court hearing, the judge ruled that the lyrics to the shape of you do not come close to the song the artist claims Ed stole from.

Thus far, a video clip posted by Ed Sheeran shares that the songwriting industry is really starting to be defamed. Through claims such as this. He added that taking these people to court should be the first decision made. Rather than giving out a settlement fee.

Similar cases

Sometime last year, Chris Brown also faced a similar predicament. When an artist claimed that his No Guidance song had referenced another artist.

It is not clear whether the artist was actually serious in his accusations but nothing came of it as the two songs were completely different from one another. As is with Ed Sheeran.

As for the Shape Of You, the song has done pretty well upon its release in 2017 and Ed Sheeran had quickly gained popularity out of it.

According to Telegraph India, the artist known as Sami Chokri claimed that Ed copied a part of his song which is “Oh I” and relayed that it very similarly resembled “Oh Why” in his song.

To date, Ed Sheeran shared that he had actually never heard the song before so it, therefore, made it impossible for Ed to copy his song. Ed also noted that he always gives credit to those he got inspiration from.

Right now, it is not uncommon for popular artists to get in trouble. As Dua Lipa has also found herself in the same boat to date.
