For a return flight from London to Munich, where Australia plays Brazil on 18 June you are looking at around £200, with prices likely to increase.
And with the hassle and cost of driving and parking, Socceroos fans can give the red card to flying and driving when it comes to getting to the World Cup. Bussing to southern Germany, where Australia will play their Group Stage matches, suddenly becomes a viable option.
Eurolines coaches, the continental arm of National Express in Britain, is making sure Aussie fans win in the transfer market without having to pay huge fees. Regular coach services from London to Munich and Stuttgart (as well as Frankfurt, which is close to Kaiserslautern) cost as little as £59 return!
Leaving from Victoria Coach Station in London you can be dropped directly in the city centre of your choice ready for the big match, meaning you avoid the cost of getting to and from the airport, taxes or hidden extras.
“We’re offering a cheap deal combined with a comfortable journey for any football fan – air conditioned coaches with reclining seats and video entertainment,” Eurolines Managing Director John Gilbert said.
“It’s a major win for the wallet too,” Mr Gilbert added. “Our prices won’t change just because it’s a big sporting occasion. In fact we say with a bit of coaching, anyone can play for Australia in Germany this summer.”
Germany has issued an open invite for all fans – with or without tickets – to celebrate the World Cup party with a host of special events in the host cities, including street festivals. So, even if you do not have a ticket, you can at least turn the town squares into a sea of gold and green.
Eurolines operate services from London to over 500 destinations across Europe and Ireland. A special deal with National Express means that wherever you are in the UK you can pay an extra £15 for the return journey to London to connect with your Eurolines continental service.
