Wandsworth win through to the 2011 AFL London Grand Final

The Wandsworth Demons are through to the 2011 AFL London Grand Final where they will face the West London Wildcats, after a convincing win over the North London Lions.

ARCH enemies the West London Wildcats will take on the Wandsworth Demons in this Saturday’s 2011 Grand Final after the Demons overcame a tough North London Lions side. Wandworth’s win means the Grand Final will now determine who will become the most successful club in the history of AFL London.  Will it be the Wildcats or the Demons?

In somewhat of an upset, the Demons, who should never be written off in such important fixtures, overcame the North London Lions in Saturdays Preliminary Final.

Despite the fact that the Lions went in as favourites, finals footy can always throw up some unexpected results and the Demons ran out four goal winners on a hot London summers day!  The Lions played with pride but it was the Dees who were too strong, beating them 14.13 (97) to 12.2 (74). Best on ground for Wandsworth were the mercurial players Ben Jansen and Damian Fenoughty while Johno Frazer, Sam Bates and Conor Nevin were also in sublime touch. Best for the Lions were the two mosquito fleet onballers in Andy Ryan, who dominated all around the ground with four majors, and Danny Morland.

The Dees win sets up a rematch of this year’s first semi final game, where the Wildcats had a convincing 60 point win over the Wandsworth boys.

In the Conference game, the Clapham Demons were too strong for the Regents Park Lions in an impressive performance.  The Clapham side will now enter the Grand Final in a buoyant fashion against the Raiders.  For the Lions, Mick Hambley booted four goals and Leigh Haslam was also a solid contributor.

In the Social game, the Eagling Emus bounced back from their shock defeat the week earlier to run out convincing winners against the Bounds Green Lions.   Ryan Smith and Patty Kierans with four goals were best for the Emus, whilst for the Lions Richard Oakes and James Masemann battled hard all day.

All eyes now turn to the Grand Final this Saturday when the Wildcats and the Demons lock horns in all 3 grades for the 3rd season in a row!

Make sure you sure at Motspur Park this Saturday to witness the Cats and the Demons going head to head with some fast and furious AFL London action guaranteed!
