Last week, the AFL showcased the gulf that exists within the competition. Collingwood travelled to Adelaide to take on Port and Geelong hosted the Suns. The results went according to plan, but the magnitude still is staggering. The collective winning margin of both games was 48 goals. You can see the raw talent that the Suns have and within four or five years they will be pushing for a Premiership, but for the Power, well, if it was a dog it would’ve been given the ‘green dream’ by now. Even the fact that they have to live in Adelaide isn’t enough of an excuse anymore.

That being said, there were some cracking games to be seen last week and one of the best of the season happened between the Bombers and the Swans. Both fighting for spots in the 8, the two sides pushed each other to the absolute max and after an arm wrestle that Popeye would have been proud of and several heart attacks for both sets off fans, the ball ended up with ‘Pure Blood’ Adam Goodes (pictured above) for a chance to win the game after the siren. His tired right leg hooked the ball and Essendon were elevated into the top 8 along with a one-point victory.

So with just four rounds left, the finals contenders are slowly dropping off but it seems the flag race is down to a two horse one. The first of which is the Pies and they face St. Kilda on Friday. Fremantle have another must win game against the Blues and if the Dockers lose this one its just about curtains for them. Dogs have one last shot to stay alive in 2011 when they play the Bombers whilst up Brisbane it’ll be ‘Pineapple Cup II’ when the Lions host the Suns. Melbourne will be hoping for ‘break free footy’ when they get the rampant West Coast Eagles and hopefully the Crows can get within 100 points of the Cats. North Melbourne will be wishing they could play this week but the bye see’s them having a week off to improve their Angry Bird skills.
