The AFL Brownlow Medal for 2011 has been won by Dane Swan of the Collingwood Magpies.
Dane Swan was favourite to take the Brownlow Medal last year but finished third behind Chris Judd and Gary Ablett. For many AFL pundits, the 2011 award going to the Collingwood midfielder is justice a year in the making.
The new Brownlow Medalist scored a record 34 votes to win by 4 from Hawthorn’s Sam Mitchell.
Celebrations will be short for Dane Swan though, as he and his Collingwood team mates gear up for this weekend’s AFL Grand Final encounter with Geelong.
