AFL Grand Final time for the Cats and the Pies

THE RUBDOWN: AFL Finals Week 3 – So after 195 games it comes down to just 4 quarters of football. Collingwood vs. Geelong. If the Pies win, the Black and White army will be ruling the world again. If the Cats win, the rest of the world will be celebrating.

THE end is nigh! Yes at long last the eternal 2011 season is about to hit its glorious climax, and even though we have known for some time that Geelong and Collingwood are clearly the two best sides, there’s nothing like having a drawn out finals system to weed out the wannabes, give false hope to the nearlies, only to be snatched away cruelly by the contenders. The Pies certainly did some serious pick pocketing in their Prelim against Hawthorn, and for three and a bit quarters, the Hawks looked the goods and were somehow on track for an unexpected GF berth.

However, the Pies stopped tattooing each other in the forward line and actually strung a couple of goals together to hit the front. Meanwhile, Buddy kicked one of the most unbelievable goals in the history of ball sports to take back the lead with a few minutes left. This left Mick no option. He was going to have to bring out the big guns if they were to get away with this one. The words were spoken and the message got out  ‘EDDIE’S GONNA CRY IF WE LOSE’. Within seconds, the Sherrin found its way through the big sticks and a major crisis was averted, as last time Eddie Maguire teared up at the G several hundred people drowned.

As it was, Mick was the one with waterworks and luckily it’s only the carpet in the coach’s box that needs replacing (he cries sulphuric acid you see).

The next day, Prelim 2 occurred with the highflying Eagles looking to continue their Cinderella season and waltz into the Grand Final ball. The Cats had other ideas and quickly showed them what is required to advance to the big one, as well as showing them the door. The only concern for the Cats was when Stevie Johnson wanted to see if his enchanted boots included the rest of his legs. They weren’t, and he found out what a joy it is to have a dislocated knee.

So after 195 games it comes down to just 4 quarters of football. Collingwood vs. Geelong. So who will prevail? If the Pies win, the Black and White army will be ruling the world again. If the Cats win, the rest of the world will be celebrating.
