POLICE had an unusually enthusiastic welcome at a pub in the Northern Territory after a hens’ night party mistook them for strippers.
The officers responded to a disturbance at the Humpty Doo Tavern in Darwin’s rural area overnight on Thursday only to find all was quiet, Darwin police have confirmed.
Trying the nearby Humpty Doo Hotel, the officers encountered a group of women celebrating a hens’ night.
They were greeted with shouts of glee, hailing them as strippers.
“The girls were in fine form and they nearly had their shirts taken off but they managed to escape with their dignity intact,” Senior Sergeant Jorgensen said.
Senior Sergeant Bob Harrison said the police were responding to reports that about 10 people at the pub were arguing about 10.40pm yesterday.
But when they entered they were surrounded by the amorous women.
“They were mistaken for strippers – I don’t know any strippers that wear accoutrements belts and turn up in a police car,” he said.
The police pretended to arrest the hen over the bonnet of a paddy wagon and posed for photos.
“They were very obliging and took everything in the spirit.” – With sources
