Following a triumphant run at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Circa comes to the Barbican with a blaze of rave reviews and public acclaim.
For the London run, Circa has been developed for the Barbican Theatre’s stage to include additional spectacular aerial acts.
Seven performers move from highly connected acrobatic and tumbling sequences to fast-paced moments of great intricacy where precision and timing are everything. The company’s signature style combines physical beauty, formidable circus skills and an immersive and integral use of sound, light and projection. The result is a new kind of circus, at once poetic, sensual and immense.
Circa is performed by: Darcy Grant, Freyja Edney, Scott Grove, Emma McGovern, Jesse Scott, Emma Serjeant and Lewis West.
Circa has established itself as a centre of excellence in contemporary circus, under the artistic direction of Yaron Lifschitz. With performances in 18 countries since 2006 the company has been rapturously welcomed by audiences and critics alike and is now recognised as one of the most dynamic forces in its field.
Its works are highly innovative, genre-bending pieces that stretch the practice of circus and celebrate the expressive possibilities of the human body at its extremes.
Prior to the month long run at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Circa was performed at the Riverside Studios in London. Other UK performances include 61 Circus Acts in 60 Minutes at the Brighton Dome and the Oxford Playhouse in 2006.
Last year the company presented FURIOSO at Galway International Arts Festival. Later this year, Circa returns to the UK as part of International Dance Festival Birmingham on 30 April and 1 May, at the Birmingham Repertory Theatre.
